USF attempt #2 attempt #2 [Sep. 7th, 2009|10:24 am]
I drive straight from SRQ to Tampa on Tuesdays listening to talk radio all the way. I tried to listen to the chronicles of narnia and will probably attempt to listen again when i burn the rest of the book to cd. does anyone else feel like listening to books is cheating? it hurts my heart a little bit. My second class of the day is Religion and Popular Culture with Del Dechant. I already mentioned my burning love for him, but it warrants another mention. He wears the most adorable ties and knows so much. Intellect is one of the most attractive qualities in a person, one that I wish i possessed more of. The class is just what I expected: lots of reading, lots of in class discussion and getting called out for not understanding the material. i love it. and then i attend social foundations of education. The class is dry but our professor Kevin Coggins makes it a little easier. I think he likes me because i sit up front and make casual conversation with him during the breaks. I think I will be able to tolerate the class and get through it. My other class is Integrating Exceptional Students into Regular Classrooms. It. is. miserable. It is dry and even though our teacher is a babe, she isn't a good teacher. I think i'll be able to get through the semester alright. and then another one. and then another one. and then another on.

I feel the need to document USF attempt #2.

On Tuesdays I wake up at the crack of dawn to attend Cultural Studies and the Popular Arts at USF SRQ. This is essentially a film class. Allegedly it isn't an intro class, but rather an in-depth view of culture from the aspect of films. So far all we have done is watch Detour and Casablanca and very very briefly discuss them. It seems to be a very superficial and easy course. I guess I'm biting the gifthorse or something along those lines, but I wish the class were grittier and more challenging. I then have a few hours break, but in order to keep momentum going, I've found it is easier to drive straight to Tampa. I've been listening to 970 news radio a good deal in the car and find that i get a good chuckle out of it's absurdly conservative views. Mark Levine is my favorite personality so far because he gets so so so angry. The drive sucks and I hope it gets easier, but I don't think it will.

Just writing this out makes me upset.
maybe i'll document more later.

I am VERY excited to be starting school. stoked to be back on a big campus. very excited about my class with dechant because I have an unreasonably large crush on that man. his adorable salt and pepper hair, variety of adorable ties and charming sense of humor was a key factor in taking a class with him again. I think i wrote I <3 dell dechant all over my notes freshman year.

Tuesday
9:00 - 11:50 Cultural Studies & Pop Arts (SRQ)
3:30 - 4:45 Religion and Popular Culture (TPA)
5:15 - 8:00 Social Foundations of Education (TPA)

Thursday
3:30 - 4:45 Religion and Popular Culture (TPA)
5:15 - 8:00 Integrating Exceptional Students into Regular Classrooms (TPA)

Social Found. and Integration are ASL requirements. Cultural Studies is an Exit Requirement. And Religions is an elective that I wanted to take because I like Dechant and I wanted to take 12 credit hours. It is going to be a very reading intensive semester. I forsee lots of afternoons and evenings spent in the library catching up. I'm so excited though.

Gretchen, I was hoping you'd have a mid-day break on Tuesdays so that my layover could be spent in St. Pete with you. But maybe on thursdays I can head up to tampa early to have lunch with you after you get out of Cultural Anthro!

Shark Week comes at the perfect time each summer. Dj kissed me for the first time while watching Shark Week. Two years later I am still madly, head over heels in love with Dj Larson.
